EPS is a plastic polymer produced by the suspension polymerisation of styrene monomer and the addiction of pentane, as a blowing agent. The pentane allows the EPS beads to expand to over 40 times their initial size (0.2-2.5 mm.). Its main properties are good thermal isulation, high compressive strenght, exellent schock absorption, low weight and low water absorbance.

EPS is used as a raw material, throught its expansion, for the production of thermal insulation boards used for thermal insulation of buildings, road construction and drainage. It is also used for the production of packaging materials and for other expanded polysterene products for specialised applications. Monocell(.R.) is in the form of beads and it is available in many different types depending on the kind of the final application.
